In my "About The Author" page, I mention a few other authors who have influenced my writing. All fine and well, but people -even scribblers- live outside their work and learn stuff that is not necessarily used in that work. It is still worthwhile and here are some that I have found influential, perhaps even important.
You might notice the title of one of my other boks; VICEROYS, VICARS, AND VEGEGERS: BRITISH ENGLISH FOR READERS. Maugham wrote a delightful short story titled THE VERGER and yes, this story lead in part to the title of my book. The BBC did it as a wonderful old black & white tele-play.
